The story behind the site
Hello! I’m Benjamin Clarke, and I run CatRepellentExpert.com. I set up this site in order to provide people with good-quality information on deterring cats humanely.
It was actually after our beloved family cat died, and we decided not to replace him, that I discovered what a nuisance neighbouring cats could be.
With no resident cat to protect our garden, we were inundated with cats from the surrounding area, using our garden as a litter tray and battling it out for control of the territory.
As if this wasn’t enough, my rediscovered love of feeding the birds was always slightly spoiled by a local black cat who liked to hide in the shrubbery and then burst out onto the unsuspecting ground feeding birds.
It got very annoying having to bang on the window or run out into the garden clapping my hands, so it sent me on a journey on how best to create a cat-free zone in the garden.
A need for cat deterrent information
There are an estimated 11 million cats living in the UK, with 1 in 5 of us owning a cat. According to figures from the Mammal Institute at the University of Bristol, cats kill around 100 million prey items every year in the UK, with 27 million of these birds.
That means that there are an awful lot of people up and down the country negatively impacted by cats, who need useful, accurate and effective information on dealing with their cat problems.
Having set up and run FoxRepellentExpert.com since 2010, I felt I was ideally suited to establish a similar resource for humanely deterring cats.
I’ve been a cat owner in the past, and I genuinely like cats, so I strive to make this site as well-balanced as possible, straddling the line between helping people solve their cat problems, while also appreciating that cats are amazing animals who make wonderful pets.
The amount of information on this site is constantly getting larger and more comprehensive, and we have also set up our online store where you can purchase the CATWatch Ultrasonic Cat Deterrent from us directly.
